La Foret
As part of our boutique hotel hybrid project in historic Fredericksburg, this suite was designed to provide guests with an impactful, almost other-worldly experience. The result is a dreamlike, theatrical space that feels plucked from the set of a Wes Anderson movie. Our first task was to cozy up the cavernous bedroom, which we did by adding large-scale wallpaper and moody colors. To introduce texture to the room, our design team incorporated intricate patterns on the bedspread, rug and other accents. In the corner of the bedroom, we set an art deco-reminiscent trompe l’oeil side table beside an upholstered chair, hanging a whimsical art we found at a thrift store above the scene. In the dining area, we added a rattan accented table to tie into the chairs and add some texture to the space, and lit the space with a playful, antique hanging lantern.Meanwhile, in the Americana-style kitchen, we contrasted the white-tile walls and olive-green cabinetry with charcoal gray soapstone. In the bathroom, we went for full drama and installed the same dark soapstone counters, completing the room with bold trompe l’oeil wallpaper and a statement verdigris mirror.
