The Carriage House at The Menagerie - Fredericksburg, Texas
Part of our VBRO remodel series in historic Fredericksburg, this unit is a remodeled carriage house tucked behind the 1910 Queen Anne Victorian mansion. Inspired by its carriage house heritage, we designed the space with a laid-back, country-style vibe and Americana decor. The resulting unit is cheerful and understated, replete with antique and vintage accents and hints of purple, pink and green.
Our design team began with a sweet, block print stripe wallpaper, using it to inspire the ornate, elegant rug and sophisticated vintage elements we uncovered at auctions along the way. To accommodate the space’s soaring ceilings, we looked for larger, more stately fixtures: a high Windsor-style bed that we customized by painting it purple, tall hand-glazed lamps and a mahogany coffee table with inlaid marquetry.
In the sunkissed kitchen, we balanced moss green cabinetry with dark wood butcherblock countertops. To introduce a natural, earthy element, we laid a double herringbone brick floor. In the bathroom, we played with proportion by adding a mini Chippendale mirror over the small-scale sink. We love how the Morris wallpaper plays with the plaid marble mosaic flooring!
