The Grace Bungalow at The Menagerie- Fredericksburg, Texas
Housed in a ‘30s bungalow, this colorful, light-filled unit is another piece of our 11-unit VRBO design project in historic Fredericksburg. Full of exuberance and warmth, entering the space feels like walking into the sunset.
In the living room, we began with a rug, using jewel tones to inspire our choice of whimsical wallpaper. We styled the space with custom drapery and a pair of vintage pendants made from capiz shells. Furniture-wise, we outfitted this room almost entirely in vintage.
In the bedroom, the atmosphere is cozy, warm and distinctly moody — truly a unique experience. Pulling inspiration from the vintage rugs, we chose dramatic wallpaper and custom drapery to balance the existing beadboard ceiling while adding warmth. We played with scale, pairing huge side tables with towering lamps and a large custom glass panel inspired by Frank Loyd Wright. For the bed, we chose a quietly handsome headboard made of burl and lacquer.
In the bathroom, we kept the existing beadboard, tying in the rustic Americana style with an antique table and a stool we found at an auction. To complete the country-inspired space, we hung block-print shower curtains around the classic clawfoot tub, and placed handpainted Portuguese mirrors over the two sinks.
