THE MENAGERIE - The Barn
Fit for royalty and their bridal party, we channeled an enveloping sense of awe and relaxed indulgence into Temptress, the most sought after unit on the property.
We suggest Gothic style and spires with a Portuguese-style bed frame against inky blue walls, while a French Louis XV style mirrored armoire lends ever more elegance. Chinoiserie objects are peppered through the estate, as are uniquely striking, custom-made Moroccan rugs, pooling transfixing colors underfoot. An artledge further transports guests with a showcase of abstract work, still lifes, and landscapes.
We let the colors spill out from an already existing stained glass window in this room.
Chromatic scenic mural wallpaper ventures into another realm with guests. Metal crane bathers are functional, used for leverage by anyone submerging or emerging from a claw-footed bathtub.
Antiques in Temptress include a nearly gestural burlwood commode of naturally complex grain, Venetian mirrors, and a scalloped fringe lamp on a white leopard base.
In the kitchen, orange cabinetry, monochromatic terracotta tile, and a bouquet of floral wallpaper harmonize with a trail of scarlets and blush leading across the bedroom to sunset hues in the bathroom.
There’s a pent up energy like the anticipation of equestrian sports in this room. The tight print of petite wallpaper seems to charge the air as it balances strong pitched rooflines.
A vintage rug zags below in muted tones that somehow whip up more excitement among the quieting presence of an antique headboard, night stand and chairs. Handmade, glazed clay sconces and feminine tole table further attempt to calm a galvanizing atmosphere. Teal tiles in the kitchen echo the wallpaper in an inviting glaze.
In the Hermosa suite, a verdant wallpaper mural climbs the wall opposite a waterfall of hand-made and hand-painted zellige tile, used throughout The Menagerie, in a blush and carmine checkered pattern.
Distant pastoral whispers creep through the spotted pillows and goat hair chair, almost as if the herder herself looked over the scene from a painting of a girl with guitar created by a Ukrainian artist.
Guests can’t ever be in a bad mood when they are crowned by a French antique rock crystal, amethyst and rose quartz chandelier
The Spanish Baroque 18th Century desk and Moroccan handmade boucherouite rug bounce antiquity off modern abstraction in a comfortable, color drenched room.
We’ve heard our Esperanza described as monastic and love the way our zestful accent wall of citrus layers with the antique accents to encourage a peaceful mood.
A Louis XV-style kidney desk and hobnail bedspread inspire with soundless messages from another time and place.
We feel awash in blues in the spacious Belladonna Suite where the wallpaper’s lacey foliage and chartreuse ceiling are like the waning light of day. In this ADA compliant room, a canopy bed carries you to the world of dreams.
In waking, carefully curated antiques, such as the Spanish Baroque walnut table, add gravitas. We kept the room light with an art deco rug and used chartreuse in a custom-made banquette. Muted tones from each concentrate in the glinting giltwood Italian Louis XV style mirror.
