TEXAS HILL COUNTRY ESTATE
The Hill Country Estate in Spicewood, Texas, began in 2020 with a simple request to furnish a closet. Over 3.5 years, this modest start evolved into a full-scale transformation of the 200-acre property, expanding to include a bespoke speakeasy and dance hall. Each room reflects a thoughtful blend of historical details with modern and traditional elements. Through rare antiques, custom pieces, and vintage artwork, we balanced beauty and function, creating a home filled with warmth, elegance, and enduring character.
The kitchen features a Devol island with open space underneath for an airy feel, while warm cream walls glow golden at sunset. A 64" La Cornue range with a custom hood anchors the space, with a nearby pantry and coffee station for convenience, and double swing porthole doors leading to the dining area.
In the breakfast nook, a wooden clawfoot table from The Menagerie sits beneath a custom cobalt blue Murano chandelier.
The laundry room is a cheerful escape with trellis floral wallpaper, bold blue cabinets, pink countertops, and a red-and-white striped café nook that adds playful charm.
The powder bath is a jewel-box retreat, featuring a pattern drench of verdant hues, a custom vanity, and vintage-inspired details, with verdigris tones adding a vibrant pop.
Off the kitchen, the bar features custom brass shelving and an antiqued mirror that visually expands the space. A pass-through window provides easy serving access outside, while alabaster sconces add a warm glow. Bar stools with claw-and-ball feet and hair-on-hide seats offer an unexpected, elegant touch.
Designed to spark conversation, the dining room combines rich reds, warm woods, and natural tones.
Sculptural red chairs, Venetian mirrors, and bold floral artwork create layers of intrigue, while the reclaimed wood ceiling and a blend of modern lighting and antique accents add a cozy yet sophisticated feel.
The informal living room offers a cozy retreat, perfect for family gatherings or quiet evenings. Warm-toned textiles, deep-seated sofas, and plush layers create an inviting atmosphere. Anchored by an antique hunter’s cabinet from the previous homeowner, the design evolved around this piece, with a custom yellow floral sofa and hand-drawn Chinese Art Deco rug.
The design includes a custom floral sofa, a hand-drawn Chinese Art Deco rug, a hammered copper coffee table, and an alabaster lamp with a red-patterned shade.
The formal living room transformed from an empty shell to a space rich with character and elegance. Custom reclaimed beams add weight to the ceiling, balancing the room’s scale, while an extended, slanted fireplace draws the eye upward.
Gothic arched niches and a custom serpent rug by tattoo artist Annie Mess introduce modern touches, while mirrored green velvet sofas and a marble coffee table add layers of artistry.
Statement pieces like auction-sourced lion sculptures and vibrant indoor plants bring personality and vibrancy, while a cohesive palette of reds and cobalt blues ties the space together. Ideal for hosting, this room invites guests to relax, connect, and appreciate the thoughtful mix of old and new.
Rich green walls and luxurious textiles create a serene retreat, complemented by an antique bedspread, a sofa that looks as if its glowing from within, and locally crafted nightstands.
Our custom tiger-patterned rug grounds the space, while Aurora by Jean-Baptiste Bertrand, a Paris Salon piece from 1876 discovered by the client, became the room's emotional centerpiece.
An art rail allows for rotating displays, currently featuring mirrored candle sconces and a vintage cubist artwork we almost kept for ourselves.
After Architect Sam Burch expanded the floor plan, we added a barrel-vaulted ceiling, elliptical arches, mahogany doors, and carefully selected materials to bring elegance to every detail.
A custom copper tub from Catchpole and Rye sits beneath a large circular window, drawing in natural light and framing outdoor views.
A mahogany vanity with aged copper accents, integrated marble sinks, and our Black Forest mirrors pairs with an arched shower enclosure in aged copper, echoing the tub’s finish. Bronze shell uplights accentuate the barrel vault, while subtle sconces and ceiling fixtures offer practical lighting that lets the architecture take center stage.
Terrazzo flooring paired with custom marble slabs creates a vibrant yet cohesive foundation, while the water closet features a striking black-and-white landscape mural in durable vinyl for easy maintenance.
This project began with a focus on furnishing the client’s closet. After meticulous measurements for handbags, shoes, and hanging items, we realized the original space was insufficient. Collaborating with architect Sam Burch, we expanded the footprint, creating a luxurious and functional layout.
A soft pink velvet seating area with burgundy piping ties into rich tones throughout the suite, from the custom Art Deco-inspired curio cabinet to touches in the bathroom and bedroom.
The vanity, with its burl wood finish and arched mirror, includes Hollywood lighting and a hidden outlet drawer for convenience.
Fabric-backed cabinets lined with wool elevate storage, while a Paris-sourced tapestry adds character. Thoughtful lighting by Maria Morrisey highlights each detail, including a hand-painted tree canopy ceiling. Complete with a champagne refrigerator and bar.
The guest suite is a refined retreat centered around an auction-won tapestry. Our Nicole Bed in russet adds elegance, complemented by a Rose Tarlow chair upholstered to match the drapery. A modern abstract rug provides contrast, and an alabaster globe fixture casts a soft glow, while an antique German Black Forest mirror adds warmth and whimsy.
In the guest bath, a hand-carved vanity frame pairs with a dramatic marble countertop, while an auction-sourced French burl and bamboo mirror adds a personal touch. Inspired by antique specimen furniture, the marble tile flooring incorporates varied marbles for texture, and a custom valance shower curtain pulls it all together.
Affectionately named the “Harry Potter Under-the-Stairs Reading Nook,” we transformed unused space under the staircase. An antique dessert trolley holds the client’s record player, vinyls, and books, while drapery and upholstered walls create a hugged-in, private feel.
The entryway makes a bold statement with an abstract piece by Elisa Gomez on the 12-foot wall, echoing colors from the main rooms. The high ceiling also inspired a tall-backed antique Mackintosh chair.
The hallway was reimagined with a barrel-vaulted ceiling and a subtle plaster sheen, creating a timeless backdrop for a rotating display of family photos and artwork on art rails. A direct sightline leads to the sauna door, framed in marble along the opening and threshold. At the client’s request for a full-length window, we designed the sauna door with a series of circular portholes from top to bottom.
The marble-framed doorway offers a view into the art-filled hallway. An antique wood shell console by Edward Wormley and an oversized mid-century Murano sconce cast a warm glow on the Venetian plastered walls.
Once a vintage car garage, the dance hall has been transformed into an entertainment haven. Flexible seating includes 4 conversation areas, two sofas, velvet seating, swivel chairs, and high-top tables by the shuffleboard and pool table for casual mingling.
Zebra-print chairs, a mustard sofa, and vintage-inspired lighting bring playful sophistication, while the dance floor and performance area accommodate live music.
The highlight of the room is the client’s framed Jimi Hendrix guitar—serendipitously paired with a vintage concert poster we selected, featuring Hendrix holding the exact same guitar. Neither we nor the client realized this match initially, adding a remarkable layer of history and coincidence.
Hidden behind a classic British phone booth, the speakeasy invites guests into an intimate setting. The original Ruth’s Chris bar, enhanced by a drop ceiling to anchor the room, while banquette seating and velvet chairs create cozy conversation nooks. Behind the bar, a collection of antique mirrors and carefully selected artwork add nostalgic charm.
The art extends throughout the space, curated with the client’s love for collecting in mind. Above the rust sofa, a portrait of Billy Gibbons sits alongside two 1960s cubist paintings, infusing a rock-and-roll vibe. Across the room, Picasso's Orgy hangs, framed with custom-painted mats by Elisa Gomez.
A majestic oak tree shades the cabana-style dining area, creating an inviting spot for intimate meals. Nearby, seating areas with multiple conversation zones welcome large gatherings, allowing guests to relax and mingle
